Zvenigorod – Old Town

Zvenigorod is a little Russian town located on the picturesque bank of the Moskva river to the North-West of the capital.

Zvenigorod is one of the most ancient towns located near Moscow. It was founded in the X century. Some researchers consider Yuriy Dolgorukiy to be the town founder. Among Zvenigorod tourist attractions are its precious monuments of the ancient Russian architecture and quiet narrow streets preserving ancient times spirit along which you can see wooden carved huts.

There have been preserved the old streets saving the charm of a humble province town: Pochtovaya street, Chekhova street, Lenina street, Makarova street and Frunze street.

At Lermontova street you can found A.P. Chekhov’s house where he lived in 1884 as well as a building of the former regional hospital where A.P. Chekhov lived and worked upon his graduation from Moscow University. He acted as Zvenigorod regional doctor when the head doctor was on vacation.

Even today at Frunze street you can see buildings bearing the architectural value. In one of such houses the music school named after S.I. Taneev is located. Before the revolution this house belonged to Anatoliy Karlovich Krog, a craftsman from Moscow (41 Frunze street). This is the main house of his estate. The house has its own specific and recognizable architectural style. The house has preserved almost its own original view.
