M.M. Prishvin’s House Museum in Dunino Village

Just in five (5) kilometres from Zvenigorod, in Dunino village on the picturesque bank of the Moskva river there is located Mikhail Mikhailovich Prishvin’s house museum.

The house and the estate are considered to be historical and cultural monument and natural reserve – the house was built in the end of the Х1Хth – beginning of the ХХth centuries. At this very time the estate and meadow were formed.

The atmosphere of that place charms Prishvin – Dunino resembles him his native places, Khrushevo-Levshino country estate located at contemporary Lipetsk region, the place where the writer was born and spent his childhood.

A study occupies the central part on the memorial exposition. Its windows face the forest part of the estate, a glade and fir-tree alley. In the distance, far beyond the river you can see fields and forest on the horizon. Prishvin’s library, photographic and hunting items and the writer’s desk are situated in the study.

Canteen is the largest and lightest room in the house. Here Prishvin spent his morning hours working and welcome his guests. At the big table gathered his friends – P.L. Kapitsa, E.A. Mravinskiy, pianist M.V. Yudina, Dunino summer residents. They were drinking tea till the late evening.

Open heptahedral veranda is the house decoration. Staying at the veranda surrounded by jasmine bushes you can see a wonderful view of apple-tree garden, linden alley, flowerbeds and magnificent age old silver-fir. Here Prishvin rested, sometimes worked and liked to watch star sky in the evenings.

The total area of Dunino estate is about one hectare. It is located at a slope – the house is an integral part of the landscape. The house is situated at the slope top, its veranda is supported by two stone pillars. Despite small area the estate in Dunino has all the features of a classical Russian estate: linden-tree and fir-tree alleys, apple-tree garden, meadow, paths, flowerbeds, benches.
